Holy Rood School is a Voluntary Aided Catholic Primary School in Barnsley, South Yorkshire in joint partnership with the Diocese of Hallam and Barnsley Local Authority. We are an average sized school with approx 250 pupils on roll including a 52 place nursery. The Catholic proportion of children is around 68% but applications from non-Catholic families are warmly welcomed. If you would like to visit the school just contact us to make an appointment. You will be very welcome to have a look round.
We have several national charter marks including the F.A. Charter Mark, the silver award for Healthy Schools and two awards for ICT ~ the NAACE and ICT Marks respectively. We have very close links with Holy Rood Church (website : www.barnsley.catholicweb.com ) and many of our children and families are involved in its liturgical and parish life.
We were last inspected by OFSTED in October 2007 and came out as a good school with two outstanding judgements for pupil's spiritual and moral development and our close links with parents and the parish. Our full report can be read on the Ofsted website ~ www.ofsted.gov.uk and following the links to inspection reports.
We were also inspected by the Hallam Diocese in November 2007 who judged us as an outstanding Catholic school and the full report can be found on the Diocesan website ~ www.hallam-diocese.com and following the links for schools and inspection reports.
Our SATS results are currently above national and well above local averages and our wonderful staff work incredibly hard. However, we work equally hard to bring out all those hidden God-given gifts and talents in each and every child, to teach them good values by which to live by, to prepare them for the fast changing world in which they live and more importantly still ~ for each child to know they have been made and loved by God.
